The Orphan/Widow control setting is found in Format. Alternately it could be a single line at the top of a page, with the rest of the paragraph at the bottom of the prior page. This would look like a single line at the bottom of one page with the rest of the paragraph on the top of the next page. When the layout including the margins leaves a single line on one page, but the bulk of the paragraph on another page, these are orphan and widow lines. The next step of fine tuning how your text is laid out on the page, is deciding whether to allow Orphan and Widow lines.

I added this information about Modern Comments in May 2021. Since then, Microsoft has implemented a much requested feature for turning off Modern Comments. If you are using Word for Microsoft 365, you may have experienced that the comment features in Word have changed recently. Microsoft has introduced what they call Modern Comments. Modern Comments work quite differently than comments in Word have been working for years. Modern Comments have not been rolled out to all users yet.
